Prime Day is a Scam
You don't need it! You don't!
Here’s what you missed!
It would mean a lot if you could comment and support this post ^ as this is a paid partnership I did with Ethos and I’d like to look good. Getting paid for the content I make helps me with my mission to spread financial literacy.
Why Amazon Prime Day is a Scam
Every year, Amazon rolls out flashy banners and countdown clocks, hyping up Prime Day like it’s some once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
But here’s what they don’t want you to know.
Many sellers inflate their prices a week or two before Prime Day—then "slash" them so it looks like a deal.
You’re not saving 40% - you’re paying full price for something you didn’t need.
For example: Katey and I are in the market for a car seat right now.
I noticed that this car seat is “on sale.”
But, when I go to Camelcamelcamel.com it’s always listed at that price!
Paste the Amazon link and check the price history. You’ll see what the real price was two weeks ago... and what it really should be today.
Spoiler: most “deals” are just price manipulation with a countdown timer.
More Importantly, You Don’t Need It
Let’s be honest:
You didn’t wake up this morning needing that Echo Dot, ring light, or fancy blender.
It wasn't even on your radar until a banner told you it was 37% off.
Suddenly your brain is saying:
“But it’s on sale!”
Sales trick you into spending, not saving.
If you didn’t plan for it, budget for it, or actually need it before you saw the ad - it’s not a deal. It’s a distraction.
And if you’re like most people trying to get ahead financially, the “$89 special” is not harmless.
That money could be:
Paying down high interest debt
Covering next month’s insurance premium
Sitting in an emergency fund giving you piece of mind
Impulse buying is emotional relief, not financial progress.
It gives you a dopamine hit — and then a guilt trip when you check your balance a week later.
Want to feel amazing?
Take that same $100 and send it to your credit card balance.
Watch the min payment drop.
Prime Day won’t change your life.
But an extra $100 toward your debt certainly can.
That’s it for this week.
If you really do want to buy something this week. Take an equal amount and invest it or pay off some debt.
I hope you’re making progress toward your goals, let me know how I can help.
